Profession or vocation?

In the 1960's tens of thousands of mostly male workers were laborers in industrial companies. Or blue collar workers. The office workers, or white collar workers, the merchants and technicians were in the minority. And most women were housewives working at home. Autonomy and self-actualisation were virtually unknown.

We are born into a particular societal situation which is characterised by its own «Zeitgeist». In Switzerland we lead an extremely privileged life. There are more professions than ever before. No other generation had as much freedom of choice. During the past decades our education system has become incredibly open. This is at the same time a gift and a commitment. We are not expected to slave away in a profession we dislike. We are allowed to move on, find and follow our vocation. We can and may continually reinvent ourselves.

Franz Schubert is said to have claimed: «I am here for nothing else than to compose music.» Such clarity of purpose is however most likely an exception than a rule.

We at «Winds of Change» have different professional biographies, but we have all deeply explored the question of profession and vocation. We are happy to support you, if you are interested in addressing this issue and embarking on a journey to new horizons.
